Our Treatments

We specialise in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and issues with an emphasis on long-term wellbeing and restoring full range of movement.

Coming in as a New Patient

During your initial assesment, we aim to find out what is causing your symptoms. We do this by first taking a clear history, doing a thorough examination and diagnosing your problem. If we can help, then we can offer a tailored plan of treatment to resolve the issue.

Initial Case History and Examination

Approx. 1 hour

Case History

When you come in as a new patient, we will take a full case history, by asking relevant questions about your symptoms, along with your previous medical history. This is also an opportunity for you to tell us what brings you in to the clinic and to voice any concerns you may have.
After the case history, we perform a complete orthopaedic, chiropractic and neurological examination to help us understand your issue better. We aim to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your visit and explain everything so you understand what we find on the examination and how we can help. We understand that everybody is different, therefore we want to find a solution to suit you, so you are less likely to have the same problem in the future.
In order to reach a diagnosis and determine the safest and most appropriate treatment, some patients may be sent for further investigations.
The tests can be anything from X-rays to MRI scans or blood tests, depending on what we find. After we have read your X-rays and MRIs, or received the results of your blood test, we will explain the results to you and discuss our plan to get you on the road to recovery.
We will then give you a report of findings when we have all the information we need to make a diagnosis. We will explain our findings to you, to help you understand what we found in the examination and any other diagnostic procedures, explain the treatment, any risks, side effects and alternatives to the proposed treatment.

We also take into consideration any underlying conditions (for example osteoporosis) and modify our treatment based on them.

We encourage you to ask questions so that you have a clear picture of what we have found. You will then be given the option of whether you would like to continue with treatment.

We will work closely with you to find a plan that suits your lifestyle and are happy to work in conjunction with your general practitioner or consultant.

Maintenance

Optional

Maintenance should be undertaken alongside ongoing treatment to help you ensure you always feel your best! This may be either monthly visits, 2-3 monthly visits, or whatever fits into your lifestyle.

This is usually the best option for those who, for example, have chronic conditions or postural issues, whether as a result of sitting all day at work or from an active lifestyle.

This will be discussed at the end of your treatment plan to see if it is something you may be interested in. We will advise you accordingly and give you the options going forward.

Headaches & Neck Pain

Pain can be a result of many different conditions that can be treated with chiropractic care: Acute trauma such as a road traffic accident leading to neck pain or a more chronic postural issue causing strain on the joints and soft tissues of the neck and upper back. Damage can occur in any part of the joint complex, be it the joint itself, the nerves that exit the spine at each vertebral level or the surrounding soft tissues such as the muscles, ligaments and tendons.

This can all lead to neck and shoulder pain and some types of headache, which chiropractic may be able to help. Cervico-genic headaches, postural/muscular and occipital headaches can all be helped with chiropractic treatment.

Shoulder / Arm Pain

The shoulder is a complex joint made up of a series of structures which, when under strain, can cause a range of issues. Frozen shoulder, rotator cuff problems and impingements of the nerves, and other structures, as they pass through the shoulder, are common causes of pain. The muscles surrounding the joint, aid in stability of the shoulder and any disruption of this can cause problems in this area.

This is the same for elbows and wrists which can also be a site of trauma or repetitive strain injuries. Problems can also arise in the arm from the discs in the neck putting pressure on the nerves, leading to arm pain.

Back Pain / Sciatica & Leg Pain / Sacroiliac Joint Strain

The joints of the spine and pelvis, and their surrounding muscles, are a common source of lower back pain. Whether an injury is a result of trauma ie: from lifting or a micro-trauma, such as a repetitive strain, all of these structures can lead to not only back pain but a referred pain into the buttocks and legs. The sacroiliac joint (often referred to as the ‘hip’) is located just above the buttock and is a common site of pain which can be as a result of faulty stresses through the pelvis. Another common condition, from a nerve root compression, is sciatica and by taking the pressure off of the nerve, we can alleviate some of the symptoms associated with this painful condition.

Hip / Knee / Ankle / Leg Pain

The joints in the lower limb take a lot of stress from gravity constantly pulling downwards. They are all common sites of strain and discomfort. The muscles around the hip and knee stabilise the joints and an imbalance in these can cause problems, not only at the site but further up your spine also. Arthritis and bursitis from overuse can also lead to many problems in the lower limb and constant strain from sports and hobbies can cause stress on structures of the knee and ankle. By relieving the restrictions and rebalancing the spine and pelvis we can help to restore normal function to the joints of the leg.

Arthritis

There are over 100 different types of arthritis ranging from inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis to wear and tear or osteoarthritis. All of them can be painful and have a huge impact on your life. We can diagnose and help in the management of many types of arthritis, so that you can live a more comfortable life.

Postural Issues

We are all aware of the postural issues in the world today, with the use of mobile phones and spending long hours in front of computers. All of which can cause stress in all areas of the spine and cause imbalances in the muscles responsible for supporting the joints. Taking the strain off of these areas by realigning the spine and releasing and strengthening the muscles we hope to alleviate the pain and restore mobility, so you can function at your optimum.
